# Sourcing Helper — Boolean & X-ray Builder

A Chrome extension that reads the LinkedIn job posting you're viewing and gives
you one-click searches for the people behind it: recruiters, the hiring team,
past interns, and people posting about the role. It **does not** scrape people
results or automate LinkedIn. It only reads the posting on screen and hands you
searches to run yourself.

## Install (about 1 minute)

Not in the Chrome Web Store yet, so it installs as an "unpacked" extension:

1. **Download:** click the green **Code** button at the top of this page, then **Download ZIP**, and unzip it.
   (Or `git clone https://github.com/Doggo21345/linkedin-sourcing-helper.git`.)
2. **Open** `chrome://extensions` in Chrome.
3. Turn on **Developer mode** (top-right toggle).
4. Click **Load unpacked** and select the unzipped folder, the one containing `manifest.json`.
5. **Pin it:** click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to *Sourcing Helper*.

Keep the folder where it is. Chrome loads the extension from it, so deleting or
moving it removes the extension.

## Use it

The popup has four tabs. It opens on whichever one matches the page you're on.

Open it with the toolbar icon or **Alt+Shift+S**.

### Job: find the people behind a posting
1. Open a job posting on LinkedIn (`linkedin.com/jobs/view/...`) and click the Sourcing Helper icon.
2. Check the **Role** and **Company** it read. Edit either one if it's wrong, then click **Rebuild links**.
3. **Start here** shows the three searches most worth a first click, each with why: the company's
recruiters, the manager the role reports to (when the posting names one) or people posting
that they're hiring, and the team you'd join. Everything else is under **More searches**:
   - **Hiring manager posts:** people posting that they're hiring for this kind of role.
   - **Recruiters & people:** recruiters, the team named in the posting, and people doing the work.
4. With a People Data Labs key, **Find recruiters** lists actual people, each with a **Find email** button.

### Write message (free, with optional AI)
**Write message** is on every person, in every tab. It opens a ready-to-send message with their
name, the role, the company, and the posting's **Job ID** filled in, in four kinds: connection
note (kept under LinkedIn's 200-character limit), LinkedIn message, email, and follow-up. The tone
changes with who they are: recruiter, manager, or someone on the team.

- Free: the templates need no key. Fill in **⚙︎ Settings → About you** once (name, school, year,
major, one line about something you built) and they're complete; anything still missing shows as
a `[placeholder]` and is flagged before you send.
- **AI personalize** rewrites the message for that person using your own Claude key. It's told to
use only the facts you gave it, but read it over before sending.
- The Job ID is the company's own requisition number from the posting text (what a recruiter types
into their system), not LinkedIn's ID from the URL.

### Follow-ups: a lightweight CRM
Every saved person has a stage: **Saved → Messaged → Replied → Call booked → Referred**, or
**No response**. Click **Mark as messaged** after you send, and a follow-up is scheduled:

- 5 days later, then once more 7 days after that, then it stops. A third follow-up rarely helps.
- Due follow-ups show as a red count on the extension icon and at the top of the **Saved** tab, with
**Write follow-up**, **Snooze 3d**, **Replied**, and **Stop**. You also get one Chrome notification
a day when something's due (turn it off in Settings).
- The Job tab shows how many people you've saved and messaged for the posting you're on.

### Person: find someone's email from their profile
1. From one of those searches, open someone's LinkedIn profile and click the icon again.
2. It reads their **name, headline, and company** from the page and fills them in. Fix anything
   it got wrong.
3. **Find email** runs the email waterfall (below) and saves them. **Save** saves them without
   looking up an email.
4. People are saved against the **last job you opened** in the Job tab (shown as "For job: ...").
Click × to save them without a job.

It only reads the profile you're looking at, and only when you open the popup. It never visits
profiles on its own.

### Find: internships straight from the job boards
Works from any page. Set a **Role** (optional), **Term**, **Country**, and how recently it was **Posted**.

- **Search the job boards on Google:** tick the boards you want (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday,
Eightfold, SmartRecruiters, iCIMS, Jobvite, Workable), then **Search on Google**. It runs one
search across all of them, using Google's own "past day / wee
